Meet Nayan and Jason, two V Teamers on our Mobile Edge Computing team who are helping Verizon thrive as a global technology leader.

At Verizon, we’re shaping the future of tech to help move the world forward. And in true Verizon fashion, we love to add acronyms to abbreviate our advances in technology. Enter MEC a.k.a Mobile Edge Computing.

To help us learn more about MEC, meet Nayan Zaman and Jason Pauley, two technology leaders and MEC experts who will first answer this question: What exactly is Mobile Edge Computing?

“In a single sentence, MEC allows applications to perform with low latency for the end-user. The basic idea behind MEC is that by running applications and performing various processing tasks closer to the cellular customer, network latency is reduced significantly and application performance is improved.”

Learn at the speed of technology.

Before working with Verizon’s Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) team, Nayan Zaman supported other service providers by maintaining their 4G/5G core networks. Armed with this experience, Nayan later joined the V Team as a Wireless Edge Network Engineer.

His day-to-day responsibilities as a technology leader include resolving escalated issues in our MPLS and Segment Routing networks, where the core and edge service applications are deployed along with various Firewall and Load-Balancer nodes. In simple terms, his work helps ensure our wireless customer experience is as seamless as possible.

In addition to his core responsibilities, Nayan was also interested in building and acquiring new skill sets. Using resources, including instructional videos he found on Verizon’s internal learning portal for employees, he educated himself on cloud computing and containerized solutions.

By following his passion to learn, Nayan upskilled and earned new certifications. He then began getting involved in Verizon MEC projects. Working on one of the most cutting-edge technologies in the world, Nayan can provide the capability of launching and accelerating compute power in the blink of an eye.

Together with his team, Nayan ensures that our network stays current in the ever-changing and complex world of MEC, making sure that our solutions are successful, and that the end-user has a positive experience.

Shape the future.

Jason Pauley found his way to Verizon’s MEC team after spending several years studying, earning certifications, and building his resume as an IT professional. In his current role as a Network Engineer, he works with our Southlake, Texas Network Center to provide troubleshooting support for a variety of different equipment types, and resolve network issues.

Aside from his day-to-day responsibilities, Jason supports our Amazon Web Services MEC initiative, which is currently being rolled out across the U.S. Being on the cusp of such transformative technology energizes Jason since he knows the potential of MEC to shape the future.

For those considering careers in MEC, Jason offers this advice. Start with a base knowledge of cloud computing and network technologies, strengthen your communication skills, and adapt quickly to absorb this emerging technology. As Jason notes, with technology as new as Mobile Edge Computing, you must constantly learn, both on your own and with your team.

“MEC is the future, and being able to play a role as we build and operate this cutting-edge technology is what excites me the most. As Verizon continues to improve our side of MEC, it will truly change the way people operate in life and what type of technology we use on a daily basis.”
