What you’ll be doing…
This internship, a part of the Verizon Campus Program, is a chance to use your drive and enthusiasm while learning from top professionals. From day one, you'll be hands-on, contributing your creative energy to impactful projects over this 10-week experience. You will work on meaningful, real-life projects within Verizon’s Cyber Security, Cyber Defense, and Engineering teams, helping you grow both professionally and personally throughout the program.
Verizon’s Cyber Security team protects Verizon’s global operations, assets, stakeholders, and intellectual property from cyber security threats by proactively leveraging threat intelligence, advanced security processes, and technologies to reduce the number of incidents that affect Verizon and maintaining constant vigilance, monitoring, and response to rapidly minimize the impact of incidents that do occur.
In this role, you may have the opportunity to:
Apply your skills in a real-world setting, gaining hands-on experience in AI and cybersecurity. You'll work on live projects, developing practical expertise in AI risk management by helping to build new security tools and create AI-focused governance models.
Get hands-on with AI Cyber Risk Management. You'll work directly with cyber professionals to gain real-world experience.
Working with our AI Enablement team to build tools that uplift our cyber services
Building dashboards or automations to enrich AI risk data, or make it easier to consume
Assisting in threat modeling exercises for AI systems to identify potential risks
Supporting the AI Red Team by helping design and run controlled tests against AI solutions
Consulting on AI architecture design and best practices based on industry frameworks
Partnering with governance teams to build AI-centric governance and compliance models
Perform applied research and solution design under the supervision of cyber security professionals to solve real world security issues.
Support efforts and programs to improve the company’s security posture.
Gain knowledge of daily business operations by attending learning programs and training sessions.
Communicate technical information to various technical and non-technical audiences.
Participate in networking activities with other interns, professionals and business leaders.

You must be currently enrolled in a degree program at Purdue University and be in good academic standing to be considered.

Where you’ll be working…
In this hybrid internship, you’ll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager. This hybrid internship will be based out of Basking Ridge, NJ; Ashburn, VA; Irving, TX; Temple Terrace, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

You’ll need to have:
Current enrollment at Purdue University in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in: Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Security, Cyber Security, Data Analytics, Business IT Mathematics, AI, Data Science or related majors with an expected completion date between December 2026 and June 2028.
Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship.
Willingness to work in a Verizon office.
Willing and able to travel.
Willing and able to relocate.
Even better if you have:
Demonstrated strong analytical skills, communication, leadership and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-moving, team environment.
Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and principles related to people, processes, and technology.
Experience working with large language model (LLM) platforms (OpenAI, Gemini, etc.)
Cloud AI/ML services (Sagemaker, Vertex AI, etc)
Experience in prompt engineering.
Knowledge of AI security frameworks (OWasp LLM, MITRE ATLAS, NIST AI RMF, etc.)
Experience leveraging Generative AI technologies such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Llama, or Perplexity.
Experience with some of the following technologies and disciplines: Python, Programming Languages: C, C++, C# Java, HTML, Net, R Emerging Technology: Cloud systems such as :AWS and GCP, Big Data, Machine Learning, Splunk and logging technology, Virtualization
You must be currently enrolled in a degree program and be in good academic standing to be considered.

Benefits and Compensation
In addition to building your skills and experiences, you will be eligible to participate in our robust 401(k) Savings Plan which provides a dollar-for-dollar company match on the first 6% of your contributions as a percentage of your eligible pay. You will also be eligible for holiday pay, as applicable.
The base pay range for this position is between $25.00/hour - $27.00/hour. The base pay rate will vary depending on your role and class year.
