What you'll be doing...
You will be supporting critical production database environments within Verizon's technology infrastructure, focusing on day-to-day operations and learning advanced database administration practices in AWS cloud environments.
Managing and maintaining Cassandra, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL/Oracle database instances on AWS.
Performing routine database monitoring, backup, and recovery operations using AWS native tools.
Supporting database performance monitoring and basic tuning activities using CloudWatch and RDS Performance Insights.
Assisting with database patching and minor upgrades under supervision in AWS environments.
Managing user access and basic security configurations using AWS IAM and database security groups.
Supporting development teams with database-related queries and issues in cloud environments.
Participating in on-call rotation for database support across AWS regions.
Learning and managing AWS database services (RDS, DynamoDB).
Supporting data replication and synchronization activities using AWS Database Migration Service.
Implementing basic AWS backup strategies using automated snapshots and cross-region backup.
Documenting database configurations, AWS resource tagging, and operational procedures.
Supporting AWS cost optimization initiatives for database workloads.
Learning AWS networking concepts (VPC, subnets, security groups) as they relate to database connectivity.

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.
What we're looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor's degree or two or more years of relevant work experience
Two or more years of experience in database administration or related field
Hands-on experience with at least two of: Cassandra, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle
Basic understanding of SQL and NoSQL database concepts
Experience with Linux/Unix environments and AWS EC2 instances
Knowledge of database backup and recovery procedures, including AWS backup services
Understanding of basic database security practices and AWS security fundamentals
Experience with basic scripting (Shell, Python, or similar) for AWS automation
Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services (EC2, RDS, VPC, IAM)
Understanding of AWS networking basics and security groups
Familiarity with AWS monitoring tools (CloudWatch, CloudTrail)
Good problem-solving and analytical skills in cloud environments
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
AWS Cloud Practitioner or Associate certification
Experience with AWS database migration tools and services
Knowledge of AWS CloudFormation or Terraform for infrastructure as code
Basic understanding of database replication concepts in AWS
Knowledge of AWS cost optimization strategies for databases
Experience with AWS disaster recovery patterns
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Eagerness to learn new AWS technologies and grow cloud database skills
