What you’ll be doing...

You will be responsible for the monitoring, testing, preventative maintenance, and repair of emergency power infrastructure, including generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), direct current (DC) plants, rectifiers, and automatic transfer switches (ATS). You will ensure these critical systems remain fully operational, leveraging your expertise in electrical troubleshooting, power distribution, and load management to meet specifications and operational procedures at Verizon Network Facilities.

Your role will also involve the maintenance and repair of physical facility structures and peripheral systems. As a first responder during network threats or natural disasters, your skills in managing emergency power backup systems will be critical for maintaining network integrity and ensuring a best-in-class customer experience.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Performing routine preventative maintenance on generators, DC Plants/batteries/rectifiers, UPS, and ATS/switchgear.

  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical faults in power generation and backup systems.

  • Conducting load bank testing on generators to ensure their reliability under full load conditions.

  • Troubleshooting complex electrical issues related to power distribution, grounding, and control circuits.

  • Assisting engineers with the design and installation of new power systems or upgrades.

  • Monitoring facility environmental conditions to protect sensitive electrical equipment.

What we're looking for...

You're a skilled technician with a deep understanding of power systems and telecommunications. You excel at working independently and are thorough, vigilant, and proactive in solving complex electrical problems.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or one or more years of relevant experience, demonstrated through work experience and/or military service.

  • Experience with emergency power generators, UPS systems, and switchgear.

  • A valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Willingness to work a rotating schedule (shifts) including nights, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the business.

Physical requirements of the job may include, but are not limited to: climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated areas, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to approximately 60 pounds, pushing, grasping, twisting/bending, and crawling, squatting, or kneeling in small spaces.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Experience with commercial or industrial generator sets, including engine and alternator maintenance.

  • Experience in electrical troubleshooting, including working with single and three-phase power systems.

  • Vocational or Technical school training in electrical technology, power generation, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with various automatic transfer switch (ATS) brands and models and their control logic.

  • DOT certificate.

  • Ability to attain relevant certifications such as Generac, Caterpillar, or Cummins generator service certifications.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
